Conroe is about 15 miles from our Magnolia yard, and we deliver throughout the area regularly. The Conroe market splits pretty cleanly into two types of yards — lakefront and open properties near Lake Conroe, and the more residential lots in Grand Central Park, Panorama Village, and established Conroe neighborhoods.
Lake Conroe Area — Sunny, Open, High Exposure
Lakefront properties and lots on the sunny, open side near Lake Conroe are well-suited for Bermuda grass. If your yard has full sun most of the day — which lakefront exposure usually provides — you have good options.
TifTuf Bermuda is our first recommendation for Lake Conroe-area yards. It establishes quickly, handles heat and drought well, and the reduced water use is significant when you’re maintaining a larger lakefront property in the Texas summer.
Celebration Bermuda is the other Bermuda worth considering — it’s denser, has a great color, and handles traffic and heat well. Good choice for larger, open lakefront lawns.
For areas near the lake that have slopes, hillside exposure, or spots that get more shade than expected from surrounding trees, switch to Raleigh or Palmetto St. Augustine, which handles variable light conditions much better than Bermuda.
Grand Central Park and Conroe Residential
Grand Central Park and similar planned communities in Conroe tend to have a mix of yard types — open lots in newer sections, more established trees in older phases. For most standard Conroe residential yards:
Raleigh St. Augustine is the most popular choice. It’s the workhorse of the Houston area — handles heat, humidity, and moderate shade, and is reliably available year-round. For most standard Conroe lots, it’s the practical default.
Palmetto St. Augustine is the upgrade if you have shade from trees or a fence line that blocks afternoon sun. It handles partial shade better and has a finer, more attractive leaf blade.
Zeon Zoysia is an excellent option for Conroe homeowners who want low-maintenance once the grass is established. It needs 4–6 hours of sun, grows slowly (less mowing), and has a premium look and feel.
Conroe’s Soil and New Construction
Conroe’s soil is largely clay-based, same as the rest of the Houston area. If you’re in new construction anywhere in Conroe — Grand Central Park new phases, Graystone Hills, or elsewhere — plan on adding topsoil before your sod. Builder clay won’t give your grass a good start.
